Science Sisters

"Science Sisters" is a two-day STEM summer camp for female students aged 16 and up, offering participants the opportunity to explore various STEM fields at the university. Through workshops, experiments, and discussions with female students and scientists, the participants gained exciting insights into university studies, research, and potential career paths. The program included topics such as mathematics and women in science, the physics of the senses, AI engineering, electronics, virtual reality, and cleanroom and chip manufacturing. The program was complemented by opportunities for exchange and a barbecue in the evening, providing a special setting for socializing.

At the barbecue, robOTTO presented themselves with a concise pitch: In about five minutes, the team introduced the RoboCup, the Smart Manufacturing League, and their own work. Afterwards, the students were able to control the robot "Euler" themselves. This gave them the opportunity to talk directly with Emma and Franzi and learn more about how the robot was developed, what it can do, and which components were built in-house.

Bridge-League towards Smart Manufacturing

A special focus was also placed on the Smart Manufacturing League's bridge league – a student league currently being established. Participants were specifically encouraged to get involved: female students from Magdeburg and the surrounding area have the opportunity to become active themselves. A dedicated girls' team is planned, to be established in cooperation between MagdeMINT and Team robOTTO. Initial expressions of interest were already received on site.

At the barbecue, in addition to robOTTO, other student initiatives also presented themselves, so that the participants could get to know different perspectives and approaches to STEM.

Looking back and ahead

What I remember most is the atmosphere of the evening: open, appreciative, and full of genuine encounters. The direct exchange showed how quickly enthusiasm for technology can develop.

A big thank you goes to the university's communications team for allowing robOTTO to be part of this event. It was a thoroughly successful evening for the team – and there is great hope that "Science Sisters" will continue in the future.
